My Experience With Overstock
Overstock is a liquidation website that sells a wide variety of home furnishings for discount prices. The company was founded in 1999 and has dominated the closeout marketplace for much of the last 20 years.
The company was initially successful in competing in the liquidation market, but they’ve struggled to find a place that’s somewhere between Amazon and Bed Bath & Beyond. With so many retailers offering low prices online, Overstock has struggled to find an identity beyond its quirky TV advertisements.
I still like to shop Overstock for niches that never go out of style. Good shoppers can find kid’s bedroom items, rugs, shower curtains, and other basics at rock-bottom prices. Just make sure to comparison-shop, because you may be able to get similar or better quality elsewhere for competitive prices!
Recently, we were redoing my 3-year-old's bedroom. He’s at the age when it’s time to pass on the baby items to friends, but he’s pretty rough on furniture, so we didn’t want to spend too much. He’ll end up outgrowing this phase eventually anyway.
Shopping online with my son was way easier than dragging him through the store. He had a lot of fun picking out his new superhero bedding, and it let him feel involved in the process. I didn’t want to overdo it but was able to find an inexpensive dresser, bed frame, and mattress at the same time.
The next day, I received a notice that everything had been shipped and it took about a week for the truck to arrive. Putting together furniture was the same chore it always was, but I felt like the furniture was of decent quality. Considering the price, I felt we might've been able to get better prices somewhere else, but the Overstock experience was good enough.
My son loves his superhero bedroom, though, so I don’t have any complaints. Looking around on the website, I liked their selection, but you see a lot of generic brand names that sell for premium prices. For example, there are $1000 chairs made by no-name companies, which is unfortunate when top-quality brands offer better warranties.
Some people may be interested that Overstock accepts Bitcoin since they’re one of the few furniture websites that do. It’s especially attractive for people who believe in the cryptocurrency economy and who want a place to spend their gains. That’s still a niche market at this point but it does work for some families.
Overstock reviews tend to be good or excellent. They’ve certainly carved out a niche and found some loyal fans. But as time goes on, I find myself looking elsewhere. There are just too many other websites that sell good-quality furnishings online at cut-rate prices. It's not Overstock’s fault, but low prices aren’t really enough anymore.
Overstock is a legitimate site that’s great for picking up bedding, furniture, and home decor. The website works with a wide variety of manufacturers, so the selection is definitely one of its strong points. They offer a lot of liquidation items that may end up being exactly what you’re looking for!
The website specializes in selling affordable and mid-range furnishings for excellent prices. However, with so many brands and items for sale, their quality control isn’t very good. Manufacturers use Overstock to sell off goods that aren’t selling well anymore, so you’re getting slightly older fashions.
For better selection with better quality, we recommend that you shop elsewhere. Try Bed Bath & Beyond for similar merchandise that’s a little more luxurious. You’ll have a better shopping experience and receive outstanding customer service that’s worth the slightly higher prices.
